A note about VPNs:
I use multiple VPNs for various things throughout the week. A VPN to connect to my server, a VPN for work, a VPN for streaming, etc. With that being said, I do not like how VPNs are sometimes represented as the end-all and be-all for cyber security. They are an excellent tool and can be very helpful, but do your due diligence and be responsible on the internet.
Don’t click on links without knowing where they go. Make sure the websites you login to are typed correctly and have the HTTPS 🔒 indicator to the left of the URL bar — that ensures you that communications on that website are encrypted. Use randomized passwords for all the websites you go on — password managers like Bitwarden help considerably. Use 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) on every website, app, and service you can — I like Authy. And finally, I suggest using an adblocker of your choice. I love the UBlock Origin browser plugin, but sometimes it’s too aggressive, so you might have to tweak it or disable it for certain websites. Our website, as an example, serves zero ads and only links to affiliate websites, but things get blocked.
There are other things you can do, but the point is a VPN alone doesn’t make you secure. Purchased VPN services obscure your traffic from your internet service provider and all the points of connection between you and your VPN provider. You can still do stupid things.
